National Siamese Cat Day
It is April 6th, and for many April 6 is April shower for spring showers. But for the cat lovers, we know it as National Siamese Cat Day. This is the day where we celebrate this elegant cat breed. Siamese cats, also known as “Meezers,” are one of the most popular cat breeds in the world.
You can learn all about this breed in our post, All About Siamese Cats. From there you can learn about this breed’s personality, health and the history behind them. But that’s not what this post is about. This post is about the day! The day to celebrate Siamese cats nationally!
Have a Siamese Cat? Give your cat an extra snuggle or two today!
History Behind National Siamese Cat Day
So how did National Siamese Cat Day get started? The day was created by a cat lover named Jace Shoemaker-Galloway. She was hoping to encourage people to adopt these beautiful cats from animal shelters.
There are so many cat lovers that want to spread awareness to adopting kittens! This awesome cat lover’s way was creating a National Holiday. Pretty awesome for Siamese cats if you ask me!
Unfortunately, even with the amount of cat lovers out there, over two million animals are euthanized at animal shelters each year. So another way that you can celebrate this awesome day, adopt a Siamese cat at your local shelter!
If you Already Own A Siamese Cat
If you already have your own Siamese furbaby and want to celebrate the day with something other than a sibling, you still can. You can buy your cat an awesome new cat toy, or splurge on some of their favorite cat treats!
Or, if we are all being quite honest here, you can do what your cat really wants and nap all day with them and leave them alone until they want you! We all know what cats REALLY want. Food and sleep.
Watch Cat Videos
If you already own a cat and are giving them the day off of loving you, you can still celebrate National Siamese Cat Day with cat videos! Even people who don’t own cats can still celebrate today with some adorable cat videos!
A Fun Siamese Cat Fact
A Thai diplomat gave President Rutherford B. Hayes’s wife Lucy a Siamese cat named Siam in the late 1870s. They had crossed eyes and kinked tails.
Siamese cats have appeared in films including “The Incredible Journey” and “Lady and the Tramp”.
