What Foods Can Cats Eat?
Cats love to beg for food. Especially if they see their humans eating it. But sometimes your cats don’t actually know what foods are safe for them and what foods are harmful to them.
I know some people think it’s best to just never give cats table scraps to make sure they are not unknowingly giving them toxic food.
If you are like me, sometimes I love to give my fur-babies a little treat or share my food with them (in a normal non-weird way of course). And for those who really want to do that, it is totally possible!
You just have to educate yourself on which foods you can give to your cat, which foods to avoid and important things to look out for along the way.
What Foods Are Safe For Cats To Eat
To start out with the most basic and the section I feel most people will probably skip straight to, the foods that your cat can eat.
What I am going to do is list these different foods below, along with a link for more descriptions on how to feed it to your cats, what to look our for and even how much can your cats eat safely.
Everything has to be in moderation, just like humans.
The foods that you can feed your cats are:
An important thing to call out though, if a food item is not on this list it does not mean it is unsafe for cats.
I will continue to talk about different foods and if they are safe for cats or not and continue to update all three of these lists.
What Food Can Cats Eat with some exceptions
Moving on to the most complicated of the three sections. These foods listed below are what I like to call a ‘sometimes, maybe, within reason’ list.
That is because while these foods are a not a strict no absolutely not for your fur-babies, there are still some stipulations to feed it to them. Whether it be the portion size you give to your cats, the types of variations of the food cats can eat while others they cannot.
The truth is, if you are wanting to feed your cats any items on this list, I would recommend following the link and learning about how to feed it to your cats in a safe and easy way.
Foods That Can Be Fed to Cats With Some Exceptions:
Again, if a food item is not on this list it does not mean it is safe or unsafe for your kittens . I will continue to talk about different foods and if they are safe for cats or not and continue to update all three of these lists.
What Food Can Cats Not Eat
Last but certainly not least are the foods that you should not feed to your cat. There are lots of reasons why foods are not safe for cats.
If you are really wanting to give your cats one of these food items, dive deeper into each of these to learn about why they are unsafe, and if there are any ways that you COULD make them safer for cats.
The Foods That Are Un-Safe For Cats To Eat Are:
Final call-out to remember, if a food item is not on this list it does not mean it is safe for your kittens . I will continue to talk about different foods and if they are safe for cats or not and continue to update all three of these lists.
Just as with everything in life, sharing human food with cats doesn’t have to be an all-or-nothing approach.
I love to give my kittens chicken shreds or let them lick my ice cream bowl once I am done. Once you learn about the different foods you can and cannot give your kitty, it actually gives you more power in the decisions you make.
You know enough to say, ‘Yeah I am going to add a little pumpkin to my kitties food bowls tonight. I know it is safe for them’. Or you can do the opposite. ‘Listen little one, I know you are begging for food, but chocolate is a no-go for cats’.
And if you want to know about more foods that are listed in here, feel free to add them below! I love to get new suggestions!
