Yesterday News Non-Clumping Litter Review

Yesterday News Non-Clumping Cat Litter Review

    Introduction:

Anyone who has a cat knows how difficult it can be dealing with litter. That is why using the litter that is best for you is so important. So how do you know what litter is best for you? How well does the litter clump? Or in this case, what happens because it DOESN’T clump! How well does it mask your cat’s odors? Just because a litter claims to do certain things does not mean it does it to your expectation.

This review will help you with all the above questions about Yesterday’s News Non-Clumping Cat Litter

For a high level overview of this litter and other recommended cat litters, along with my other top cat products see my post Cat Products to get on Amazon.

    Odor Elimination:

One of the main areas most litters focus on, for good reason, is odor control or elimination. Yesterday’s New does a phenomenal job at eliminating odor from the very start. Every time one of the cats uses the litter box, there is almost no smell even right after using it.

Other litters do not do as good of a job with this as the odor control begins to wear off after a day or even less.

This is not the case with Yesterday’s New NonClumping Litter as it does its job and blocks odors for quite a while. This makes it very forgiving in case you don’t get a chance to clean out your kitten’s litter for a few days or more.

    Clumping Ability:

So this is a non-clumping litter. Non-clumping litters are mainly used for newborn kittens to keep them safe from clumping litter.

Kittens can put things in their mouths that they aren’t supposed to. Clumping litter does just that. It clumps.

So until kittens are about 3 months old, I recommend using a non-clumping litter. If that seems like too long for you, a minimum time is 8-9 weeks.

So needless to say Yesterday News fails when it comes to clumping ability. But in the same breath, does it win because it is not clumping as it should? These are questions I ask myself.

    Tracking:

This may seem like a trivial category but if you are constantly having to vacuum in front of the litter boxes like I have to do, this category can be very helpful.

Yesterday News Non-Clumping does not state anywhere on the packaging that it is a non-tracking litter. However, because of the size of the pellets, the tracking factor is not as big of an issue as it is with normal clumping litter.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is a much better non-tracking litter than many of the “non-tracking” cat litters available today.

My opinion is similar to the Arm& Hammer Review. Because of the size of the particles, it makes it hard for cats to accidentally get litter stuck on their paws.

I do think the size of the litter particles does have something to do with how easily it can be tracked by cat’s paws so for this reason I will say that the much larger particles of the Yesterday News Litter work as a deterrent against tracking.

    Ease of Use:

Yesterday News Non-Clumping Cat Littter is just like any other litter as far as buying it in different sizes and ease of pouring or scooping into the litter box.

However, I will say all non-clumping litter does make the ease of use harder to define.

Any non-clumping litter is going to fail at the ease of use when compared to clumping litter. This is because since clumping litter clumps, it makes it easier to scoop the used litter out.

One thing that this litter does surpass clumping litter is dust. Because it is not a powder, there is no risk of dust flying up when you are trying to clean it.

Any other litter, I would wear a mask as the act of moving the litter around and scooping cat waste would cause plumes of dust to rise into the air.

    Price:

Yesterday News Non-Clumping Litter is reasonably priced but it slightly more expensive than other cat litters.

Despite being a few dollars more expensive then other litters, the value I as good as it gets for the price.

Especially if you are only using non clumping litter for kittens. It is a small price to pay to keep your kitties safe.

    Final Verdict:

Yesterday News Non-Clumping Cat Litter is my favorite non-clumping cat litter! It is my go-to litter whenever newborn kittens come into my life.

I love that it keeps my kittens safe, and even better, it still blocks odors.

The quality of the litter and the safety of your kittens will more than make up for the slight difference in price. Like these? Make sure you see my reviews of the other cat litter to find which one is right for you!
